Thomas Gallup In 1763 Thomas Gallup received a grant from King George the 3rd, of 300 acres of land along the Connecticut River in Plainfield, NH. Roscoe Gray and Henry Smythe Roscoe Gray, Justice of the peace and Quorum for the state of New Hampshire, and his family were the last of seven generations of the Gallup-Woodman-Grays to inhabit the property. Henry Smythe, a noted Harvard scholar and former Chief Geologist resided on the estate with his family until 1944. John Bissell and Ted Burgess Shortly after the Second World War, Home Hill was aquired by the Bissel family. It remained in their family until the 1960's when local attorney Ted Burgess bought the estate. Ted Burgess renamed the estate "Holy Stone Barn" after a horse that he rode as a boy.
